Home Alone

Since it is the last post and we are close to the Christmas time, I thought why not include a classic Christmas movie. I have seen this movie every year during the holidays, sometimes I just will watch it for the heck of it. My siblings and I would always sit around with our cup of hot chocolate or bowl of menudo or even a cup of champurrado. Most of the time my siblings always watch Christmas movies together. The film is hilarious and fits well into with the Christmas spirit. I think that everyone has at least seen this film more than once; because it has been around for like forever. There is more than one "Home Alone" film, but the third film is not with the same actor. This movie is about when bratty eight-year old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O'Hara) makes him sleep in the attic. After the family accidentally leave to the airport without Kevin, he wakes up to an empty house and thinks his wish that he had no family came true; but his excitement goes away when he realizes that two con men (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rib the house and Kevin must protect the family home. Every time I watch this movie it always puts me in a good mood, with all the of the comedic actions in the film why wouldn't it make you happy. So during the Holidays get your family together with a cup of hot chocolate and sit down and and have a good time.

Doctor Strange

Over the weekend I went to go watch the new installment to the Marvel universe, Dr. Strange. I have been waiting since last year to watch the film; because I was eager to see who he was and what it was going to be about. I saw the film with my roommates at the Galaxy movie theaters in Riverbank. It was one of the best movie experiences I have ever had. We got to go to a private screening so it was much different than your regular screening room. The seats reclined, which was the best thing ever; because you could actually lay down and watch the film instead of having to sit straight up for two hours. The film overall I loved, it met all of my expectations; I was a little disappointed in how there was not a longer fight scene compared to the other Marvel films. The fight scene was probably long,it just didn't seem like it to me. My favorite thing about the film were the graphics. You could easily tell the animation team put in some hard work into the film; because nothing looked fake. I also like how Marvel always put a little snip bit of Stan Lee in these films. They also get each character in point, like the actor or actress who portrays the character looks exactly like the character. The story line I liked a lot, it fits very well with the other marvel films. The film is about Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberpatch) takes a horrible turn in a car accident that destroys his hands. He turns to modern medicine to help, but that soon fails him; so he turns to a mysterious enclave to help heal him. He will soon learn the truth of the enclave, about the battle between these dark forces. Not long is he forced to choose between his life of fortune and status or become one of the most powerful sorcerer's and help defend the world. I know I have recommended several films to see, but trust me on this one; you need to go see this film. Even if you know nothing about the Marvel universe it doesn't matter, GO WATCH IT!

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension

I know that Halloween is over, but I was still in the Halloween spirit. I was terrified to watch the film; but I was curious as to what this one was about. Now after having watched it I probably will not watch it again, unless I was with a group of friends. Throughout the film I was terrified; because of all the jump scares and the demon. This film revolves around the third Paranormal Activity, and it was released last year so it is the newest of the franchise. The story for this one is Ryan Fleege (Chris J. Murray), his wife Emily (Brit Shaw), and their 7-year-old daughter Leila (Ivy George) were preparing for Christmas in their new home. Later they find an old mysterious camcorder, the father finds out that it shows mysterious objects through the lense that are invisible to the naked eye. When Leila starts talking to an imaginary friend (Toby) and shows signs of odd behavior, the couple will soon find themselves in a horrible battle with the supernatural force. I do not really watch films that scare me, but I would rather watch a film like this then one about killing. I think that this film and "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" are the most creepiest, strangest, and scariest from the whole movie franchise. Some of you might agree on my opinion. and that is fine. What I did not like about the film were the graphics; some of the graphics used to represent the demon looked very fake as if they came out of a video game. You could easily tell the representation for the demon was fake. Overall I would personally give this film a 4 out of 5.

Curse of Chucky

Now since today is Halloween; how about a movie with everyone's favorite doll Chucky. The movie "Curse of Chucky", the first time I watched this film I was younger and I thought the film was going to be scary; but it was not. I know quite a few people who are afraid of Chucky and after watching it for myself, I still do not understand why. I mean the thought of having a murderous villain trapped inside is scary; but it is a thriller, it is supposed to be scary. In the film Chucky (Brad Dourif) is out for revenge, he invades a young woman's family, her sister and her niece. Personally I have no idea why he wanted to get revenge; but I think to understand why you have to watch "Child's Play". I have not seen that film so "Curse of Chucky"  was very confusing to me, as to not knowing the reason behind his killing's. I feel that this is the perfect film to watch on Halloween if you are not going out to party or to take your sibling's trick-or-treating. If you want to watch a scary movie, but one that will not scar you and that is not too scary; this is the perfect film. Overall I like this movie, i like how it is another take on your typical thriller film; and if you like this one there are other films like "The Bride of Chucky" or "The Seed of Chucky" that go along with this story. I know that everyone has probably already seen this film and the other films; but you should still check them out and watch them again.

The Shining

Continuing on with the Halloween theme I decided to pick Stephen King's "The Shining". The movie itself might not be very scary; but it is very disturbing to watch. I had watched the film during the summer, me being curious as to what it was about. I would advise not to watch it at night, and to give yourself at least a two hour break to have time to watch it. I had made the mistake of watching it late at night and I was scarred a bit; but since the film is two hours long I watched the rest in the morning. If you have seen the meme of "Here's Johnny" or the two twins in the hallway going around this is the source of it. My opinion on the film was I liked it, I did not like how disturbing it was; but I guess that was King's intention when he wrote the story. The movie takes place in Colorado, where Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) has to stay at the empty Overlook Hotel, hoping to cure his writer's block. He goes with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and his son Danny (Danny Lloyd), and he has psychic premonitions while he is there. Jack was trying to write; but it was not going so good, his visions begin to become disturbing. He then finds out about the dark secrets of the hotel and starts to turn into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family. Since in the film Jack has visions, some of them are truly unpleasant to watch. Even the sons visions are creepy to watch. When I watched the film I did not really understand why and how Jack became a maniac; so it might be confusing at first to watching it, but I think you will understand the story at the end. Throughout the film I felt that certain aspects left me speechless, like what is going on? I think that if you have wanted to watch the film or are into weird films like this one, I recommend you to watch it.

The Conjuring

Since it is the month October and Halloween is coming up I thought I should watch a scary movie. I decided to watch "The Conjuring", I have never seen the film, so I did not know what to expect. While I was watching it during some of the scenes I was afraid to look up at the screen, I knew that something creepy was going on. Personally I don't like scary movies; but I will watch some, I have heard many things about the film, I was curious and wanted to see what the fuss was about. After watching it I was like what the freak, some of the scenes were jaw dropping like you wanted to turn off the television. I never knew that this film was based on true case files of the Warren's until I read the description. The film is about in 1970 paranormal investigators demonologists Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed (Patrick Wilson) Warren are called to the home of Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger (Ron Livingston) Perron. They just moved into a farmhouse with their five daughters, the home has a supernatural presence. Throughout their stay a series of events that go from okay to terrifying, especially after finding out the history of the home. The director James Wan is very known for his horrifying films. He filmed the Insidious films, The Conjuring films, and many others. Movies like these terrify me, but I still choose to watch them out of my own curiosity. Even though the film scared me; if you are into horror movies I definetly recommend this film.

Captain America: Civil War

Personally I have always been a fan of the Marvel films. My personal favorites are the Captain America films. Everything about them I love, especially the action and the stunts in the movies. This is the third film of the Captain America movies; but there is a whole Marvel universe that goes along with these films. In this film pressure from the government is put on both the characters where the Avengers have to be accountable for their actions. Captain America (Chris Evans) thinks hero's should be free to defend mankind without the government conflicting their decisions; and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) disagrees and thinks there should be some sort of  consequence for their actions. Their disagreement leads into feud where Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Bucky (Sebastian Stan) The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Ant-man (Paul-Rudd), Vision (Paul Benttany), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and War machine (Don Cheadle) must pick whose side they are on. So far I think that this is the best one of the Captain America movies ever made. Even the actors themselves are great in this movie. Some of them you may not know who they are; but if you go back and watch the other films you will know who is who. Personally I love Chris Evans not only his character, but him as a person. I think he was meant for this role as Captain; because it suits him very well, same goes with Robert Downey Jr. too. I highly recommend if you have not seen this film to watch it and the previous films as well.
